TITLE: Spiritual cleansing

Hindu devotees achieve purification through body piercing rituals during Thaipusam festival. The physical body is an illusion, and the main goal is to become one with God. Family members showered devotees with blessings of flower petals before a long procession carrying the heavy kavadi and body piercing.
