TITLE: Mono-Eyed Gazer

In a Shinjuku gay disco, I encountered a "Mono-Eyed Gazer"—a childhood friend reunited after 20 years, his eye pierced by a singular ray of light. Through my rangefinder, I synchronized my gaze with his, bridging a two-decade void. A city is a process where vectors pierce accumulated layers of the past, and "fields" are constantly transformed. Shinjuku is a site of pleasure modulating toward the night; being placed here conditions human attitudes. Photography is the act of fixing these effects exerted by the "field" on humans as visible traces—a record of an intense, momentary intersection.

Yuichi Mine (b. 1973, Nagasaki) is a Japanese photographer and game creator based in Tokyo. Currently a project manager at Capcom, he merges his experience in digital world-building with his academic background in paleontology from Kyushu University. This dual perspective forms his core philosophy, "Urban Stratigraphy," viewing the city as a living process where layers of time, human activity, and energy vectors constantly accumulate and intersect. Through his monochrome rangefinder photography, he seeks to fix the invisible "fields" of the city and the raw friction of the urban labyrinth as visible traces.
