My favorite photographs happen when I'm on a long walk, either in the country or in the city. I look for life as it's happening and sometimes life happens best as it's walking away.

SHARRON DEMAREST
I am a photographer living and working in Seattle, Washington. Born in
Maine, I misspent my youth as a military brat moving around the country before settling in New
York City. Thirteen years ago my spouse and I relocated to Florida to be near family.
My passion for photography was ignited during my senior year of high school when I acquired a
plastic $3.98 Diana camera. The pictures were lousy, but I was hooked. Since then, I have
rarely been without a camera in hand.
I got my professional start in photography working as a darkroom technician for various New
York-based photographers, including W. Eugene Smith, notable for his WW II photography and
documentation of the city of Pittsburgh. During my free time I roamed the city photographing the
people and places I came to know and love. Some of my early street portraits can be found at
McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and private collections in NYC.
My more recent work is in several Florida collections. I have received awards for my
photographs in area art shows such as the Broward Art Guild, Arts United Art Explosion, and
National League of American Pen Women.
Technically, photography-whether it’s film or digital-is always about the light. My job is to capture
that light, mix in some joy, add a dash of me, and let the viewer see what I see.
