Joachim Lombard has been photographing the streets of Paris and New York for thirty years.
He taught himself shooting and darkroom techniques in the mid-nineties while studying film at NYU.
He photographs once a week, on Tri-X films, with his Pentax K1000 and a 55mm lens.
He always uses the same equipment which requires long stages of time and patience.
He loves to be limited to 36 exposures. Every click is the result of a thinking process, an interior discussion he has with himself. That discussion is what he loves about photography. Constraint is what makes him creative.
Because he knows his material extremely well , he can bring it into unknown territory. To make it do things it was never supposed to do, technically speaking. There is always a chance factor with film. You do not fully control it. That's what he loves about it.
