TITLE: Halo

This work explores the existential paradox between spiritual transcendence and the physical burden of existence. The "Halo"—traditionally a symbol of divinity, enlightenment, and sanctity—is reimagined here not as a weightless crown of light, but as a monumental force pressing down upon the human form.
In the stark contrast of black and white, the subject is stripped of individual identity, becoming a vessel for a universal struggle. The luminous ring above does not merely illuminate; it demands. It represents the relentless pursuit of perfection, the heavy expectations of society, or perhaps the crushing weight of a destiny one did not choose. The bowed head and the vulnerability of the bare shoulder evoke a sense of silent endurance, suggesting that every "light" we carry—whether it be fame, virtue, or intellect—comes with an inherent gravity that anchors us to our mortality.
The deep shadows represent the "unseen" cost of this radiance—the solitude and the internal void that exist behind every public brilliance. By isolating the figure in a void, the composition emphasizes that the journey toward enlightenment is often a lonely pilgrimage. Ultimately, the piece poses a silent question to the viewer: Is the light a gift of grace, or is it a golden shackle? It is a visual meditation on the fragile equilibrium between the desire to reach for the infinite and the inescapable weight of being human.

Long Phi Tran (b. 1989) is a Vietnamese conceptual photographer based in Ho Chi Minh City.

His work has received international recognition. In January 2026, his artwork was selected as the cover of Heart Rhythm Journal, published by Elsevier and won an Honorable Mention at the 2025 Monochrome Photography Awards. Long’s works have also been highlighted by Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Vietnam UNESCO Federation Magazine in 2026, and were selected for inclusion in Ho Chi Minh City university-level final examinations in 2025 — reflecting both their artistic merit and conceptual depth.
He has had the opportunity to share his artistic vision through global interviews and features (Spain, The Netherlands, Georgia, Australia, etc.).
