TITLE: Capturing the unseen expressions of the Earth’s ancient land in TANGO.

“Tateiwa,” the starting point of the My Moriwaki family's photo journey,
is a massive rock approximately 20 meters high located in Taiza,
Tango-cho, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, at the eastern edge of the San'in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark.
Composed of pyroxene and esite bedrock—formed when magma erupted from underground approximately
15 million years ago
and subsequently cooled and solidified—and a sandbar (tombolo) connecting it to the mainland,
Tateiwa-Rock stands towering as if to dam the Takeno River as it flows into the Sea of Japan.
The sandbar leading to Tateiwa extends outward, but the point where it connects to the mainland changes
depending on wind direction caused by atmospheric pressure patterns, waves, tidal currents,
he ebb and flow of the tides, and the volume of water flowing in from the Takeno River.
In Taiza, home to the Taisei Kofun burial mounds, I continue to photograph
Tateiwa—a scenic rock that changes its appearance with every visit—while immersing
myself in the romantic atmosphere of ancient times.
I will continue to pursue Tateiwa in the years to come.

HIROMITSU E MORIWAKI

Born in 1957 in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, as the eldest son of a photographer.
➢ In the second grade of elementary school, he learned how to dry ferrotype photographs and began helping out in the family business.
➢ During his junior and senior high school years, he realized he would take over the family business.
➢ After graduating from university, he worked for a photography wholesaler for six years before returning home to take over the family business.
➢ In 2017, with the advent of the digital photography era, he began full-time creative work and began submitting his work to the National Geographic photo submission site.
➢ Five of his works were selected for the 2017-2019 Editors' Faboritte.
➢ Winner of the Nissan Desk Calendar Photography Contest in 2022 and 2023, and a prizewinner in the JAMCA PRIZE 2024 ART Contest.
➢ He continues to capture the expressions and scents of his hometown through photography, creating scenes of his hometown that no one has ever seen before.
