TITLE: From the Car

A 4x4 Land Cruiser carried me through Tanzania. I looked out the window with a handheld Nikon; I looked at the people on the street, walking…waiting, the hustle and the boda-bodas. It all spoke to resilience and endurance—and it had everything to do with community.

The black framing heightens the feeling of the car window—looking from the inside out. I like to see the pictures one after another, as I had seen them riding by in February.

Jeremy Damato’s journey in photography began in 2008 after learning of Magnum Photos and its member photographers. In 2011 he processed & archived numerous rolls of American street photographer Vivian Maier's film, which resulted in an exhibition at the Cleve Carney Art Gallery in Glen Ellyn, IL.

In 2012 Damato was the unit still photographer for Wishing Well Pictures boxing drama "The Challenger" featuring Michael Clarke Duncan (Oscar nominee for "The Green Mile") in his final performance. Damato’s work has been exhibited by Agora Gallery in New York City, and has appeared in Black & White magazine, PhotoLife, as well as the Evanston RoundTable. Damato is based in Brooklyn, NY.
