TITLE: Street Layers

Street Layers is an ongoing analogue photography series exploring the rhythm, fragmentation, and emotional experience of urban life through in-camera multiple exposure. Created entirely on black-and-white film, the series combines architecture, movement, light, reflections, and passing moments into layered compositions that blur the boundary between memory and physical space.

Rather than documenting a single moment, the project reflects the way cities are experienced psychologically — fragmented, overlapping, and constantly shifting. Different streets, structures, and atmospheres merge into one image, creating visual relationships between places that would normally remain disconnected. Through this process, the city becomes not only a physical environment, but also an emotional and perceptual landscape.

The work is created intuitively, balancing composition with unpredictability. Because the original exposure is no longer visible while shooting the next frame, memory and instinct become central parts of the process. This introduces an element of chance that mirrors the uncertainty and fluidity of everyday experience.

At the core of Street Layers is the idea that even within the chaos and contrast of urban environments, there is an underlying rhythm connecting everything together. The layered images invite viewers to slow down, observe, and reconsider the spaces they move through daily — not as isolated moments, but as interconnected experiences shaped by memory, movement, and perception.

Omar Danial Biuiiuktosun is an artist and analogue photographer whose practice explores memory, perception, urban space, and the relationship between control and unpredictability. Working primarily with film photography and in-camera multiple exposure, he creates layered images that examine how environments are emotionally experienced rather than objectively documented.

Originally beginning with drawing and painting, Biuiiuktosun’s background in traditional visual art informed his sensitivity to composition, rhythm, and light before transitioning into photography. Over time, analogue photography became central to his practice due to its physical process, limitations, and unpredictability. His work often focuses on intuition, spontaneity, and the emotional fragmentation of contemporary urban life.

His ongoing series Street Layers investigates how cities overlap visually and psychologically, blending architecture, movement, memory, and atmosphere into single compositions created entirely in-camera. Alongside this, projects such as Breaktime Ballet explore quieter observational moments and the unnoticed rhythms of everyday life.

In 2025, his work was exhibited internationally in New York, Tokyo, London, Tashkent, and Almaty, including exhibitions at Awita New York Studio, Design Festa Gallery, Candid Arts Trust, Brick Lane Gallery, LumiNoir Gallery, and the Abilkhan Kasteev State Museum of Arts, where he participated as a featured artist in the Street Layers exhibition.

His work has also been featured in publications and platforms including F-Stop Magazine, Savant Magazine, Frayme Magazine, Visual Poetry Journal, Curators Magazine, and Visual Art Journal. His practice has been the subject of independent critical writing discussing his approach to analogue experimentation, layered imagery, and urban perception.

Biuiiuktosun currently continues to develop his practice through analogue experimentation, multiple exposure techniques, and ongoing research into memory, perception, and the emotional experience of space.
