TITLE: Randy, Reclaiming the Arena of Gender Expression

My muse - Randy. This is his Rodeo. For him - a visual dialogue, a metaphor of bull riding invoking its psychological physics, rather than its spectacle. A moment where danger, exposure, surrender, and resolve exist at once. Staying on matters more than winning.

The body appears here as weight, flesh, tension, readiness. Not posed into safety, or shaped for control. It is grounded, braced, present. The body becomes terrain, carrying pressure and control at the same time.

Empowerment is not dominance, but endurance. Remaining present inside volatility. Knowing the cost of being seen, and staying anyway.

I discovered my fascination with photography in 1967 while watching my first photographic film being developed in an old-fashioned darkroom. Later, as a teenager I returned to Australia from Germany. I read everything in print at my local library - about photography's technical and artistic side. Back then I had a fascination for chemistry and all things scientific. During high school I worked every holiday and by the time I was 16 I had my first Nikon and my own darkroom.

At heart I’m an aesthetic, I simply love beauty, and I’ve always had a natural passion for art. As a teenager I devoured every fashion, photography and art magazine, and got myself to as many art and photography exhibitions as possible. By the time I was 18 I'd had my first acceptance in an international exhibition that toured Europe. I was proud, being the only name in the catalogue on the page for Australia.

Back then my goal was to pursue a career in photography, but after high school I was forbidden to pursue this passion. Instead, I acceded to my father - a career in science, industry, technology and then later, in intellectual property law. That career was rewarding, but deep down my love for photography and art endured. My early heroes included Helmut Newton, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Weston, and Ansel Adams.

I retired from technology in 2018 and decided to get back into art and photography. In 2020 I commenced a course of study at a Sydney university, and by 2022 I was runner up ‘Photographer of the Year’ in Australia. Then a top 10 in the professional Capture Awards, and a semi-finalist at the 2025 international Head On Photography Festival, Bondi Pavilion, Sydney.

My art goal is acceptance at national art gallery level. I'm dedicated to creating stunning artwork over the coming decade to achieve my goal.
