TITLE: Dust, Horns, and Humanity

This photographic project explores the daily life of the Mundari people of South Sudan, a Nilotic tribe whose existence is inseparable from their sacred Watusi cattle. More than livestock, the cows are the heart of Mundari culture, shaping identity, social structure, and the passage from childhood to adulthood. From an early age, boys learn responsibility by feeding calves, protecting the herd with ash and soil, and collecting dung used in daily rituals. These tasks are essential steps toward becoming an adult.

Between the long hours of work, rare moments of play, music, and silence reveal the humanity behind the effort. Through close observation of gestures, rituals, and gazes, this series captures a timeless bond between people and animals : one built on respect, resilience, and survival in a harsh environment, where tradition continues to guide each generation.

Romain Miot is a French physiotherapist who turned world traveler and photographer. His life project is to explore and capture the beauty and diversity of the world by visiting all 197 UN countries, which he affectionately calls "Objective 197."
