TITLE: The Weight of Lightness. Lifted

The photographic project is devoted to the phenomenon of crowdsurfing—the act of carrying people above the crowd during concerts. For several years, I have been documenting moments in which an individual body is handed over to the collective, relinquishing control and stability in exchange for a fleeting sense of community. I am interested in this brief state of suspension between safety and risk, anonymity and extreme exposure.
I position the project at the intersection of documentary photography and social observation. I treat crowdsurfing as a metaphor for relationships based on trust and shared responsibility—the individual exists only as long as they are supported by others. The photographed scenes capture tension, physicality, and the intensity of collective experience at concerts. These are images about emotion: euphoria, fear, excitement, and vulnerability that emerge in the moment when the body is lifted above the crowd.
Being carried becomes a gesture of radical trust, but also a form of collective emotional expression—spontaneous, uncontrolled, and often pushed to the limit. I am drawn to the moment when an individual’s emotion is taken over and amplified by the collective, and the body becomes a carrier of shared experience and energy.

Paweł Adamek, born in 1970, lives in Sucha Beskidzka (Poland).
Paweł Adamek is a photographer and photography educator working at the intersection of documentary practice and social observation. In his projects, he focuses on the human condition, interpersonal relationships, and emotions revealed in extreme or liminal situations. He is a student of Creative Photography at the Institute of Creative Photography, University of Silesia in Opava (Czech Republic).
A recipient of numerous awards and distinctions in international photography competitions, he has presented solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. His practice has also been featured in the documentary series Fotohistorie (episode 6) broadcast on TVP Historia. Works as a freelancer.
