TITLE: Forgotten

Josefina (76), her sister Dolores (63), and their niece Margarita (58) live together on the first floor of an old building in Havana, Cuba. Margarita, who has a benign tumor in her neck and severe scoliosis, is the only one who can leave the apartment as she can walk without anyone's support. Dolores is blind and bedbound, but that doesn’t stop her from showing happiness and bringing a smile to her niece’s face. She sings to me and asks if I have seen some of her favorite movies. She is proud to be the only one out of the three without a fever at that moment. Josefina, the eldest, tells me with a voice that sounds like a whisper that she has survived three heart attacks while her skin burns. I help her sit up in bed, as she doesn’t have the strength to do it alone. They have no family left to assist them or anyone to take good care of them. Only one neighbor seems to help from time to time, carrying buckets of clean water to their apartment. They welcomed me into their home and I visited them a few times, bringing them spare clothes, food, soap, toothpaste and medicine. For a moment the pain left their eyes, looking at all those humble gifts with genuine joy.

Born in Barcelona in 1983, Patricia is a photographer specialized in Egyptian archaeology. Combining both her passions, Egyptology and photography, she works for national and international archaeological missions in Egypt since 2006. Her job consists in photographing the objects and structures archaeologists find, and documenting the day to day of the scientists and local specialists in the field. While in her working stays in Egypt, she also takes the opportunity to document daily life of modern Egyptians and the astonishing landscapes of the country, where past and present merge. She has exhibited in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) and Jaén. She has been awarded in several photo contests in the past years, such as Budapest International Photo Contest (Bronze x 3), Tokyo International Photo Contest (Silver), Prix de la Photographie - Paris (Bronze), Refocus Awards (silver).
