TITLE: in-between
I used to find transitions unbearable — from passive to active, inward to outward, dry to wet, solitude to connection. The mere idea of change was enough to trigger anxiety. But over time I began to notice that most of life is not spent in one state or another — it is spent at the threshold between them.
This series is a meditation on that in-between space: the pause before movement, the breath before surrender. Rather than fearing the crossing, I wanted to learn to inhabit it — to find in transition not discomfort, but grace.
Is the character holding the space or is the space holding her? This is the chapter of stillness before movement, of potential before choice.
AUTHOR: zoya ershova (Mexico)
My relationship with photography began in childhood, growing up alongside my mother, Inna Ershova — a photographer and member of the Union of Photographers of Russia. From a young age I assisted her on professional projects, learning analogue photography and post-production by her side. That early immersion gave me a deeply intuitive and technically grounded foundation in the visual arts.
Of Uzbek origin, I have lived and worked across many countries — Russia, Europe, Bali, Japan, and now Mexico — since a very young age. This nomadic life has shaped the way I see the world and the way I make images. Since 2019, my practice has spanned photography, documentary, narrative film, music videos, and fashion, always guided by a commitment to visuals that carry genuine emotion and intention.
