TITLE: Expressions, in Monochrome

This series presents five close-up portraits of orangutans, rendered in black and white to reduce the images to form, texture, and expression. The absence of colour removes narrative cues, directing attention to subtle shifts in gaze, the sculptural quality of light and shadow, and the remarkable detail of hair framing each face. The closeness of the portraits collapses distance between subject and viewer. Every strand becomes visible, every crease and shadow deliberate, transforming hair into landscape and skin into topography. The monochrome treatment emphasizes contrast and depth, allowing light and shadow to sculpt the face rather than describe it. Each portrait captures a distinct moment. Together, these images form a study of presence rather than performance.
