TITLE: Erasure

These images document what survives when darkness consumes everything unnecessary. Engineered objects stripped of purpose. Structures collapsing into the forest. Natural forms at the edge of disappearance. Photographed in total darkness, each element illuminated by hand, the painted light is the only thing keeping these subjects from being erased entirely. What remains is stranger for it.

Tommy Nigbor is a self-taught fine art photographer based in northern Wisconsin, working from the landscape he's called home for most of his life. His subjects are overlooked and weathered, collapsed cabins, abandoned wells, forgotten chairs swallowed by the forest, found in total darkness, isolated by light, each one suspended at the edge of disappearance.
At the heart of the work is a single obsession: the moment when an object has lost its original purpose and become something stranger. Not abandoned, not decayed, just suspended between what it was and what it's becoming. That threshold is what he is looking for. The result is familiar but unstable.
