Streaks of electric light, motion, and emotion transform NashMith’s New York City photography into a poetic, abstract vision. Through her unique “photo-paintings”, NashMith explores light as memory, movement, and connection – revealing the city in a completely new way.

Born during a time of isolation, NashMith’s work speaks of resilience, presence, and the beauty hidden in motion. Her study in light motion began at the height of the COVID pandemic. NashMith was trying to connect with the shutdown city around her. The streaks of electric light running through the dark skein of her neighborhood became that connection, a sign of life, something to hang onto.

NashMith’s “photo-painting” experiment continues to date. Alchemic manipulation of speed, depth, and light sensitivity capture light in motion, creating painterly photographs. At times the light and movement is linear, at others a tangled interwoven abstraction. Each marvelously expressive, evocative of unique feelings and memories.
