TITLE: The protagonist
The title is "The protagonist".
I report the comment of two dear friends and good connoisseurs of my photos that decided the title.
-The photo takes on meaning for that man who passes by. Without that subject it is pure aesthetics and dies, even all beauty loses value.
Instead, beauty is in function and takes on value for that single man.
Then that man becomes the subject and protagonist of the photo and of beauty.
And beauty itself is the protagonist of his own life.
-It is an Infinity in which you do not get lost but is for you. All because that person is there.
About the production:
This photo was taken at about 3000 meters in an alpine swamp dotted with white cotton flowers called „erioforis“. I went in the swamp in bare feets till the point decided to place the tripod. Then mounted My good MPP MKVII 4x5‘ folding, my last chassis with 400 iso IR film, a schneider 90mm, made all the stuff... , decided for a dark blue filter that enhanced the flowers from the water and environment.
And.... light went off: some clouds arrived.
I stayed there a good 30 minutes with feet in mud and water, guessing if this or that light aperture in the clouds would have ever reached me or not, keeping in one hand the shutter cable.
At the end a spot of light come, tree seconds of light, and in two of them my shutter stayed opened at F64.
I barely had feeling that someone was around but had no way to understand where, as light was comeing in from the opposite side (were I was looking, backwards the camera).
It was so born whith all my effort, but by herself.: discovered after processing its human presence and power
AUTHOR: Marcello Colombo (Italy)
Marcello Colombo was born in Milan on 03/27/76 and lives in Monza near the park of the same name, breathing breadth and beauty.
After high school he completed a three-year engineering course to then deal with automotive design.
He holds several patents within his scope and defines new standards of method and merit.
In 2006 he began a journey of analogue photography "in the workshop" of a skilled black and white professional, until he acquired complete mastery of the process during the pandemic. Thanks to the passion for the mountains he fixed beauty in specially organized expeditions, panoramas and environments, trying to convey his sensations to the film, with the most appropriate techniques from time to time.
Now he dedicates a good part of his time between mountain expeditions, ptrocessing and printing, verifying whether to make it his main profession.
