TITLE: Unleashed
The photo comes from a larger project which is an exploration of the artist's personal relationship with the archetype of femininity. The photo aims to depict and celebrate the grand, unapologetic feminine. It attempts to show the feminine as something overwhelming, almost magical, elusive. I want to present the feminine as a force of nature. I have chosen a nineteenth-century printing technique to strip images from distracting details because I aim to visualize an idea, emotion – not an object. The photograph was taken by a digital camera and printed using the technique of gum bichromate, making the whole process very laborious and time-consuming. The technique makes the photo physical and fleshy. In my explorations I am looking for spaces which allow me to create free from corporate or technological pressure. I am investigating processes that enable me to relate with my own intuition and can lead to the creation of an artefact that is unique and final. I do not discard the tools offered by modern photography but I do select only those that I find useful to make a draft on the basis of which I can build the proper image using real-life tools.
AUTHOR: Łukasz Cylejowski (Poland)
I am a self-taught image addict. My background is in graphic design. From there I shifted towards illustration and photography. I run a small photography studio in Szczecin where apart from commercial photography and 3d modeling I build large format cameras and spend time in the dark room, play around with 3d scanning and motion design, explore alternative photography techniques and draw.
