MARCO CUCURNIA is an Italian cinema director and student of Mario Monicelli. He was born in Genoa in January 1975. The port of Genoa, among the heaps of coal, was one of the most fascinating places that he photographed since before his adolescence. The most important directors of his life are Mario Monicelli and Dino Risi. Starting from Genoa at the age of 18 he went towards Mario Monicelli and was close to him for almost twenty years.
His latest two awards are the ARFF PARIS Honorable Mention for “La vigilia di niente” (The eve of nothing) and a special mention at the European Photography Awards 2024 for the photographic work "SempreMetro." Both works with Ada Coruga. Among his latest works: in October 2021 in Cinecittà his second homage to Mario Monicelli: "The Walls of Monicelli", a moving visual work of art, installed for a month in the comedy room of the Cinecittà Museum. In 2023 his second film "Un filo più breve” (Lining up) which won the best film award at the New York City IO film 2023 festival. In October 2022 he won the best director award at the Artelesia festival in Benevento with "Dedicated to cinema" . Work created with nine children with disabilities which demonstrates that disability is an advantage, or rather two. In April 2019, he brought "The Color of My Days" to The Ethnografilm Festival in Paris. His first film in 2006, SOLOMETRO, won the 2008 Ajaccio Award. LALIBI in 2004 received the Kodak Award, the Ciak Monthly Award for the best Italian short and the First Prize at the 2004 Genoa film festival.
On 5 September 2016 he presented My homage to Dino Risi, 2016, at the Casa del Cinema in Rome.
Other works: Genova, Amore Mio, documentary film with Paolo Villaggio - 2004 RAI TRE; Mario Monicelli, the artisan of Viareggio - portrait - 2001 RAI UNO, premiered in the filmmakers of the Present section at the 2001 Locarno Film Festival.
