TITLE: Lights and shadows in the city
The city is a stage where light and shadow play a fundamental role, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary images. The photographer's task, in this context, is to see the invisible: knowing how to capture beauty in the simplest gestures and in scenes that often go unnoticed. Each shot becomes a small testimony of life, a piece of memory that would otherwise have slipped away with the flow of time.
AUTHOR: Francesco Varacalli (Italy)
I was born on 5 January 1969 in La Loggia (To) and I have lived in Poirino (To) since September 1998. I approached the world of photography after buying my first reflex, a Yashica FX 103P. Over the years, the interest in photography has become increasingly intense. By reading books and magazines I was able to learn the fundamental concepts of photographic technique, but thanks to frequenting the CF La Fonte in Carmagnola and discussions with the members I was able to improve my way of photographing. I owe a lot to president Cosimo Desantis who introduced me to black and white photography and development and printing techniques. Together with Clara Garigliano and Moreno Strazza in 2005 we realized the idea of establishing the Poirinese Photographic Club "Romolo Nazzaro", of which I am currently the president. Since 2008 I have been a member of the FIU (Italian Union of amateur photographers).
During these years I have participated in several competitions with some good placings.
In recent years I have used various cameras, but I have become inextricably linked to the NIKON brand. I used an F801S and then an F90X and also an all manual FM from the 70s. I have been switching to digital for several years, first with a D1X and then with the D300s and now the D500. For some time now I have paired the NIKON with a LUMIXGX80 which I use mainly for street photography.
