TITLE: Lagos city
Silver photo series taken in the streets of Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city with over 22 million inhabitants. Lagos City is a large metropolitan city in southwest Nigeria (a West African country on the Gulf of Guinea). All photos were taken in 2024.
Photo 1: Portrait of a man working as a travelling tailor in the Surulere district of Lagos. He goes around all day with his sewing machine on the shoulder or on the head looking for customers who need a quick touch-up.
Photo 2: Young man in distress on a street in the Yaba neighbourhood of Lagos Mainland. His right foot is swollen in advanced putrefaction, his skin cracks around his wound because his tissues are no longer supplied with blood.
Photo 3: A woman carries a large volume of cardboard waste on her head in the Surulere neighbourhood of Lagos. This collector searches the garbage and wild dumps in the streets all day long, then takes them to a store-resale place for recycling.
Photo 4: A man is carrying live birds in a cage on his head in the Ikeja district of Lagos. The chickens are in balance, but the man is moving himself on a suspended road bridge.
Photo 5: Street vendor of beef in the Yaba neighborhood of Lagos Mainland. Dealer without official authorization with only a piece of cardboard as equipment.
Photo 6: A man in the Surulere neighbourhood has a sign in his hands that says “Need money for baby food and baby pampas”. He has also entered the name of his mobile wallet (or "e-Wallet").
Photo 7: Women food vendors in Yaba, Lagos Mainland, selling their “homemade” food on the street.
Photo 8: Little girl on a pirogue in the Makoko neighbourhood of Lagos Mainland, the world’s largest floating slum.
