TITLE: PowWow, an America Tradition
People often think of the USA as a modern society without any cultural traditions. But that’s not true at all! America has a long history of traditions, from Native Americans to new immigrants. Every part of society brings its own unique culture traditions. The more I travel around the world, the more I feel the need to document these culture traditions near home. Three years ago, I started a project to record Native American traditions in Southern California, especially the PowWow tradition. PowWow is a kind of competitive dancing form that’s been around for hundreds of years. It involves ceremonies, singing, feasting, and dancing. I’m traveling around Southern California to track PowWow events. It’s great to see more and more Native American kids getting interested in this tradition and participating in these events.
