TITLE: Yūgen 幽玄
Three pictures. Three variations of a flower, stripped of color, reduced to form, light and shadow. What remains is not less - but more: an echo of beauty that eludes the eye and lives on only in the emotions.
The tulip, painted in black and white, reveals itself not in its full bloom, but in its suggestion. It is not an object, but a sensation - a memory of something that was just there and is now fading away. In this abstraction lies Yūgen - the intimation of the invisible, the allure of the unspoken.
A space is created between the images: a silent "Ma" in which meaning is formed. Every gaze lingers, gropes, searches - not for explanation, but for sensation. In this way, the tulip does not tell us about itself, but about us: about the longing for depth, for beauty beyond words.
AUTHOR: Matthias Kuehle (Germany)
Holding the first Pentacon Six in hand at the age of 8, it took another 32 years until the first picture was taken from this very camera. That was not so much an initial spark as a self-discovery.
For me, the viewfinder is the window to the world. The world is analogue, square and achromatic. But sometimes also rectangular and colourful. Depending on the subject. I favour portraits and prefer working documentarily. My aim is to capture the moment and make changes visible and perceptible.
I have arrived, and yet that is just the beginning of my journey.
