TITLE: The eye of Heaven
The worship of the sun was important to ancient civilizations.
For example in wintertime the winter solstice was celebrated by the cultures around the world around the 21st of December.
It is the longest night and the shortest day in the year. Newgrange, Stonehedge, Cahokira Woodlenge or Ahu Tongarikiri are monuments built which are alignment with the sunrise or set on that day.
The festivities of the winter solstice and summer solstice are still celebrated in our modern times.
Famous ancient sungods and Sun goddesses are Amaterasu, Arinna, Hittite, Apollo, Freyr, Garuda, Helios HepaHittite, Arinna, Inti, Liza, Lugh, Mithras, Re, Horus, Shemesh/Shepesh, Sol, Sol Invictus, Surya, Utu, Hvar Khshaita to name a few. Wikipedia delivers a lot of information about this topic.
There will be no life possible on earth without the sun all living beings are looking for the warmth light it delivers. It raises living beings.
I am a hiker, a traveller and an adventurer. And my name is Andreas Starke during the past years of my photojourney I was able to photograph a lot of images of the sun and this inspired me to participate with this project.
