TITLE: PRINCIPALITY OF ASTURIAS (Spain)
These serie of photographs is part of my new B&W photography work on the Principality of Asturias (NW Spain). All photographs were taken with Hasselblad 501C, Hasselblad 503Cx, and Hasselblad SWC medium format analog cameras during the last five years, and all of them will be included in my new book. The films used were Kodak Tri-X 400 and Ilford HP5+ exclusively.
CUERRES CLIFFS. With vertical limestone cliffs over 75 meters high in the east part of the Asturian coast, the waves that crash against the cliff during the big sea storms sometimes exceed 100 meters in height.
DUJE VALLEY. The Duje Valley divide the West Massif and the East Massif of the European Peaks National Park, with more than 100 peaks over 2500 meters high.
ONETA WATERFALLS. One of the biggest waterfalls of Asturias, with more than 20 meters high.
THE FACE OF GOD. Only visible from one single point on the coast at low tide, this geological coincidence reminds me the profile of Christ's face. An island at the end, the cliff and the sea during low tide allow to see this face profile. An unique point of view of an unique profile.
PIMIANGO FOREST. One of the most singular forest of the Principality. Very ancient trees near the sea.
THE ARC OF THE SEAGULLS. One of the most iconic points of the east coast, this rock arc is a nesting place of the seagulls.
TREE AND THE SUEVE MOUNTAIN CHAIN. The moon, the old tree an the Sueve Mountain Chain.

Other of my B&W photographs was awarded with an Nonorable Mention in the Moscow International Photo Awards 2016.
My passion is photography. I have been taking pictures of Asturias for over 10 years, I love take photos. One of my passions is take photographs that reflect the traditional way of life that still survives in the remote villages of the Principality, far away the big cities. Travelling on old and lonely roads, visiting abandoned villages, popular festivals, old trades abandoned today, talking with old crafstmen and everything that is part of our culture is very attractive for me. I started this project two years ago, with the aim to be able to show our traditional culture to people and to collaborate in its preservation.
For me, analog photography is the way to go in this project, "The Embrace of Time". I love film. One of my favourites cameras are the medium format cameras, my Hasselblad 501C and my old Mamiya 645. Also, I still use 35mm film cameras in some ocassions.
I hope you like my work.
Best Regards
Juan de Tury
