TITLE: Guardami - (Look at me)
The project stems from the desire to mend the dialogue between two worlds often in conflict: the world of nature, ancestral and unspoiled, and the world of humanity, shaped by necessity and ingenuity, yet burdened by the weight of its massive intervention on the environment.
Through a series of photographic diptychs, I juxtapose urban scenarios and architectures with natural landscapes, creating a visual narrative where the two seemingly opposing images intertwine and merge into a continuous flow, becoming a seamless territory.
This visual act goes beyond mere documentation or a denunciation of environmental issues; instead, it should be seen as an act of reconciliation.
Artificial lines and organic forms meet in a delicate balance, suggesting a possible harmony—an imagined landscape where coexistence is not only desirable but essential.
Each composition acts as a symbolic and visual “mending.”
The images tell a story loaded with meaning: humanity, responsible for the profound transformation of the planet, seeks to rediscover its bond with the Earth, acknowledging its beauty and primordial value. Urban landscapes complement natural ones, like two halves of a whole that can become whole again.
“GUARDAMI” is, therefore, a statement of intent: a call to investigate not only photographically but also ethically the face of our planet. In other words, it is an act of reflection and hope, an invitation to reconsider our place in the world and to imagine a future where humanity can recreate that lost harmony with Mother Earth.
AUTHOR: Giampaolo Antoni (Italy)
I am 60 years old, born and living in Tuscany, and I developed a passion for photography in my early twenties.
I trained during the era of analog photography, working with film and medium format cameras. My experience in the darkroom, printing and developing photographs, has deeply rooted my connection to black-and-white photography, which remains to this day my most expressive medium.
Over the years, I have pursued and changed many occupations, but photography has always been a constant thread, accompanying my journey and marking significant milestones in my life.
I have always considered photography a powerful tool for interpreting and exploring reality, capable of shaping and sharpening our understanding and emotions toward others.
I am constantly in search of moments that move me, subjects that capture the essence of life. I love freezing those moments in images, transforming them into stories to be told.
