TITLE: Walk of Faith
This project began simply with the desire to retry architecture photography. I touched on it years ago but hadn’t succeeded yet as I began to wrestle with the idea more and the theme and what it would mean, which grew to include still lifes and self-portraiture. The theme itself just made sense after the year I’ve had.
My faith has always been a constant and important part of my life. This year has brought about the most extreme highs and lows I’ve experienced in that walk with Christ - from not believing for a period of time to being completely devoted. So a commentary on that only felt fitting, especially with this medium of photography, because it requires intentionality.
The biggest challenge I faced in this project was lighting. I came out with negatives I liked, but some of them were not so much, and some were ones that I didn’t print due to that struggle with lights. I utilized one of the LED lights for the first half of the project, with my still lifes and self-portraits, and then relied on natural light for the architectural shots.
I’d say the weakest element in my photos is the composition of the architectural photos, I wasn’t sure how to capture them besides straight on.
This is a project that could see many facets of life as I progress through mine since my walk of faith will continue to be a constant. I’m excited to see how I can expand on it and just have it become art as opposed to just a project.

I'm a student at the University of Kansas, majoring in photography. I've not had much exposure to the artistic side of photography until college and I've definitely grown as a person and photographer by being forced into that side of this medium. And I absolutely love it. Sports photography is my first love, but learning how communicate stories through interpretive images is a skill I'm growing ans a joy to do with this profession.
