TITLE: Nevermore
This series of images reflects many of the themes of Poe’s supernatural poem, The Raven - not only the ostensible paradox of hope and despair but also the thin line between rationality and irrationality. In Poe’s world, these contrasting states were nearly mutually exclusive – black and white. Nevermore intends to push us towards the gray.
In a world coarsened by the inexorable drive for an illusory perfection, we’ve oft effected the seeming sanitation of our faces, our bodies, and our stories, obscuring a reality beneath. The gray, the wrinkles, the middle have all but disappeared. Much like the world around us, our art is often so focus stacked, noise reduced, and over saturated that sterilization rather than expression frequently results. We’ve all but crucified the underneath in pursuit of a wistful reality.
Perhaps, these images serve as a gentle tug of balance, a resurrection of the gray, a reminder that our full selves can be hidden nevermore…perhaps not. But the pendulum swings.
The seven images acknowledge Poe’s date of death on October 7th, 1849.

Dave is an evolving nature and wildlife photographer. Inspired both by the mystery and the beauty of our world, he has always been interested in what is concealed in an image as much as what is revealed. He uses diverse techniques to beg the questions of what, where and why. He experiences the concept of art as a shared conversation – never simply just question or answer but communion.
