TITLE: CARTOGRAFIA DEL SER MIGRANTE (Cartography of the Migrant Being)

"Cartography of the Migrant Being" is a project that addresses the experiences of migrant women from a feminist and social justice perspective. This series of fourteen black-and-white photographs (originally) explores the body as a vessel of memory and resistance, employing symbolic elements and textures to bridge the individual and the collective. The visual narrative seeks not only to document but also to reflect on invisible stories, creating a space for remembrance and transformation.

The project is framed within the current context of migratory movements and global inequalities, examining the impact of these dynamics on the lives of migrant women. Each image serves as a tribute to their strength and resilience, inviting the viewer to reflect on their realities and challenge dominant narratives.

Judith Butler (1956, Cleveland) states that the body is not merely an object of representation but also a political subject that challenges and redefines norms, serving as a site of resistance against structures seeking to discipline it. Cartography of the Migrant Being adopts this perspective, emphasizing the resilience of migrant women in the face of physical, emotional, and social barriers.

Through the textures and gestures of the body depicted in the images, the series not only represents these stories but also activates a critical reflection on the structural inequalities that perpetuate such experiences. As Butler asserts, the representation of the body carries the potential to open new avenues for agency and reshape collective memory. This idea comes to life here, integrating the visual narrative into an ongoing dialogue with the archive as both a political and cultural tool.

Soy María Lasa (1981, España), estudiante de Bellas Artes con un enfoque narrativo y conceptual en mi fotografía. Aunque mi formación académica en esta disciplina comenzó en 2023, mi relación con el arte se remonta a 2005, cuando inicié mi camino creativo en otras formas de expresión visual.

Mi trabajo fotográfico gira en torno a temas que me atraviesan profundamente: la justicia social, lo espiritual y el comportamiento humano. A través de la imagen, busco capturar no solo lo que se ve, sino lo que se siente: las tensiones invisibles, los silencios densos y las historias que habitan los cuerpos y los espacios. Me inspiran autores como Gregory Crewdson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Andreas Gursky, Tracy Warr y Ansel Adams, entre muchos otros, cuya manera de narrar a través de la luz y la composición ha marcado mi propia búsqueda artística.

En mi proyecto más reciente, "Cartografía del Ser Migrante", abordo las experiencias de mujeres migrantes desde una mirada feminista y de justicia social. Esta serie nace de la certeza de que nadie migra porque le apetezca; hay razones de peso y mucho sufrimiento en el camino. Conozco de cerca historias de lucha, resiliencia y coraje, y sentí la necesidad de plasmarlas visualmente, con respeto y admiración hacia quienes las protagonizan.

A través de mi fotografía, quiero generar un espacio para la reflexión, un punto de encuentro donde las imágenes no solo se miren, sino que también se sientan. Creo que la fotografía tiene el poder de narrar lo indecible, de tocar fibras invisibles y de dar voz a quienes, muchas veces, no son escuchados.

Este es solo el inicio de mi viaje como fotógrafa, pero cada imagen que capturo es un paso firme hacia un lenguaje visual más honesto, comprometido y humano.
