TITLE: P.O.O.L.S. — Photography of Overhead Liner’s Symmetry

The P.O.O.L.S. (Photography of Overhead Liner’s Symmetry) project offers a fresh view of cruise ships—entirely from above. Instead of typical promotional images filled with passengers and sunsets, these photographs focus on pure geometry, symmetry, and the intricate design of ship decks.

At the heart of each composition is the ship’s bow, where a small pool is always present. Whether round or rectangular, this pool becomes the focal point, drawing the viewer’s eye. These pools aren’t meant for swimming but serve as tranquil retreats for passengers.

People are rarely featured in the images, but when they appear, they instantly shift the perception of scale. Without them, the deck looks vast and abstract, almost endless. Their presence transforms the scene from a geometric study into a living space.

Why the bow? Because it is an architectural and engineering masterpiece. Every line is carefully designed, making it one of the most visually striking parts of the vessel.

Details play a crucial role in P.O.O.L.S.: the clean lines of the deck, contrasting textures, precise markings, and the interplay of light and shadow. Each image is a blend of minimalism and precision.

This project is not about glossy travel photography—it’s a celebration of symmetry, form, and the unseen beauty of cruise ships. It invites the viewer to see these massive vessels in a completely new way—literally

My name is Yevhen Kostiuk, and I am a Ukrainian award-winning photographer from Kharkiv. My passion for photography began a long time ago, but I seriously started pursuing it only in the last few years. A significant part of my work is devoted to aerial photography as a way to see our world from a different perspective. Each drone takeoff is like a step into a parallel world where familiar objects look completely different.

I enjoy working with contrasting combinations of colors and shapes, and I particularly love the minimalist style. In addition to aerial photography, I have a keen interest in landscape and architectural photography.
