TITLE: PUJA
In Varanasi, India, daily prayer ceremonies called Puja can be seen in the morning and at night, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
The night ceremony is especially grand, and the area around the stage is filled with so many people that it is impossible to take a single step.
I watched the ceremony from a boat on the Ganges River and could feel the heat of the city of Varanasi as if it were on fire during the night puja, which was attended by countless people.
AUTHOR: Yosuke Yamada (Japan)
I was born in 1986 in Shimizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
Currently based in Tokyo.
I almost didn't photograph anything with a camera until I graduated high school.
However, when I saw a photographer coming to photograph my high school, I was intrigued, and as soon as I graduated from high school, I enrolled in a photography school where I learned how to operate a camera.
After graduating from school, I learned how to take pictures at a rental studio used by a professional photographer in Tokyo.
After working in the studio for two years, I decided to quit my job and take a look around the world, first in England, then in Spain, Egypt and Switzerland.
During that trip, I was able to feel how small the world I had been seeing was.
Then I decided to quit all my work in Japan and go on a two-year trip to see the sights of Asia, Europe and South America with my own eyes.
That trip gave me the opportunity to clearly decide what I should be photographing in the future.
Since then, I've been visiting various countries based in Japan to see the scenery with my own eyes and photograph it.
Currently, I'm focusing on Japanese and Tibetan landscapes.
