TITLE: The Imperial War Museum North
The Imperial War Museum North building in Manchester, UK. This is a long exposure photograph taken from Dock 10 looking across the Manchester Ship Canal. The building is a creation of the architect Daniel Libeskind. This was his first building in Britain, and it opened its doors in July 2002. The design concept is a globe shattered into fragments and then reassembled, representing the earth, air, and water. This concept was intended to reflect the unsettling nature of war, with the building's sharp angles, sloping floors, and leaning walls all deliberately designed to disorient and unsettle visitors, thereby intensifying the collections and stories within.
AUTHOR: Richard Gill (United Kingdom)
Welcome, I'm Richard, a man whose life has been deeply influenced by the art of photography. My journey started when I was just seventeen, exploring the world through the lens of an SLR film camera. This experience ignited a passion within me that has grown and evolved over the years.
As the world shifted towards digital technology in the early 2000s, I too embraced this change. I found in digital photography a new means to express my creativity and capture the world's beauty in unique ways.
In 2013, I made a significant decision to turn my passion into my profession. Leaving my role as a global sales director, I sought a more fulfilling path; one that allowed me to channel my creativity and love for photography into a career.
My primary focus is property photography, an arena where I strive to bring out the charm and essence of holiday rentals and houses for sale. Beyond just a job, I view this as an opportunity to tell the unique stories of these properties, connecting them with potential buyers and renters through my visuals.
I also venture into commercial photography, assisting businesses in sharing their narratives through engaging images. Whether it's a cozy corner café or an imposing corporate building, I approach each subject with humility and respect, ensuring their essence is captured authentically.
This year, I've delved into the world of black and white photography, placing particular emphasis on modern architecture. Working with a monochromatic palette, I've found, allows for a greater degree of creative freedom and self-expression. Yet, I approach this new endeavor with humility, considering it an exploration and learning journey rather than a mastered skill.
I currently reside in Kendal, Cumbria, a picturesque town teeming with inspiring landscapes and charming architecture. These surroundings fuel my creativity, enabling me to capture the world's beauty through my lens and share it with others.
Despite any successes I've attained, I remain humble. My love for photography continues to be a personal journey of creativity, growth, and self-expression. With each click of the shutter, I invite you to see the world from my perspective, to appreciate the beauty within the simplest things. Whether I'm capturing a home's unique charm or the grandeur of modern architecture, my photographs reflect my humble spirit and passion for capturing all things beautiful.
