TITLE: Mundari " The last shepherds"
This is a few days with Mundari tribe from South Suda. The living with cows and for cows. Cattle orientated tribe is one of the most interesting about their culture & lifestyle. They are equal with cows. Cow is a food, life and money to buy future wife. Tey are nomadic till usually 30 years old. There is no real childhood cause youngs need to carry many fieldwork and they are part of the system. I spent few days living with Mundari, look at their lifestyle. The Mundari, like other Nilotic tribes, are very cattle-oriented: cattle serves as a form of currency and a mark of status. Cows are more than gold for them , they treat cows equally.
Mundari move in search of pastures, returning to encampments created on their own trail. The roles in their group are strictly divided, and the circadian rhythm goes along with the cows. They are armed like all tribes in South Sudan. The grass completes a 24-hour cycle, being eaten by the cows in the morning, excreted as dung in the encampment, then burned into ashes, which are used in the morning to clean livestock and cover the body to protect against the sun and mosquitoes. The characteristic triangular scarifications are the domain of the Mundari as one of the Nilotic tribes of South Sudan.
