TITLE: Hasidic Community, Brooklyn
This was all shot during a procession celebrating the dedication of a new torah, the holiest text in the jewish religion. The new torah was a gift from an elder member of the community. Since it was all done in hand calligraphy, it took the better part of a year to complete. Only the men took part in the celebration. The women were relegated to the periphery, many pushing baby carriages to the side and behind the procession.

I've been taking photographs off and on for over 50 years. In the good old days of film I shot only black and white and loved to work in the darkroom. I'm now firmly in the 21st century and have only shot digital for years. My favorite subject is people but love the drama of black and white in landscape, architecture etc. This will be my first photo contest.
