TITLE: Waiting to Cross - Asylum
I had the opportunity to spend time with a group of vulnerable migrants trying to make their way legally into the U.S. These people were Haitian and staying in a shelter on the Mexico border, waiting for their asylum appts, which could take up to six months. Outside it wasn't safe to travel so their lives were limited to the walls of the shelter. My experience here reminded me of the strength and the resilience it takes to leave your home for a county where you don't speak the language nor know anyone and you are treated as third class citizens. I was inspired by their grace and their resolve.

Storytelling has been at my core as far back as I can remember. And for the longest time, I’ve been able to share the stories of others through my photography. If I had dropped onto this earth a couple hundred years ago where painting or sculpting would have been my only options, there is no doubt in my mind that I would have had to pick up another vocation. But thankfully, I grew up in the era of instamatic cameras followed by SLRs then digital cameras. So it’s all good. I can do what I love to do.
About 10 years ago, with an eye on creating a wider variety of options for my clients, and my passion for deeper storytelling, my photography morphed into video and now we’re doing both, bringing that same authentic look to brands all around the world. We also have a full production crew that can take a project from concepting all the way through final edit and delivery now - you can find them over at our other site - machineshopproductions.com.
