TITLE: Di padri in figli

“Di padri in figli” is a photographic project that explores the role of men in our society.

Thanks to an ever-increasing focus on the topic and the courage of all those people who are fighting to give themselves and their children a world where expressing one's emotions is acceptable and safe, the relationship of men with themselves is changing in a positive way.

Still, even when growing up in the most accepting and nurturing environment (which is not a given), boys and men must face outer expectancies of masculinity and confront with realities that leave no space for softness and empathy.

My background in psychology helped me guiding my subjects in the exploration of their singular idea of masculinity, by scanning the relationship they had with their male significant figures, their own ideas and experience, and the direction they would like to take.

To do that it was necessary to create a safe space to talk about one’s emotion and experiences without feeling judged.

My goal has been to set an example and give visibility to more accepting and healthy ways of being men, by opening a dialogue about masculinity in a different and more positive way.

Mirta is an Italian photographer based in Friuli.
After graduating in psychology (2021) she looked for a new way to communicate the knowledge and insights she had during her studies.
Her focus is on group functioning and interactions, gender differences and the consequences of stereotypes in everyone's well being.
