TITLE: Struggle / Rise

Shot with model Isabella, the first time I had returned to the studio after assisting someone very close to deal with the aftermath of severe harassment / mental assault. We had intended to shoot outside, but the weather wasn't playing along, so we headed to the studio with no pre-planned ideas. This is one of three series that emerged in a very intense hour.

Born in England, moved to Germany to become American, but still living near Stuttgart, Germany. Taught math at school and university: was more interested in the processes of learning that the content. Studied photography. stopped. started again, motivated by early retirement and his wife. Specialization in the studio, then, slowly, outside. Portraits of athletes, many of them masters, morphed into figure studies and explorations in erotic and fetish photography, often with the same models: typically strong, fit, and older. The goal is non-exploitative, authentic portraits that stay away from cliche and in which his models are co-creators: collaborators in a process.
