TITLE: Between Worlds
This is a series of long-exposure and multiple-exposure images of details of Buddha sculptures in Thailand. They are an attempt to capture a sense of the mystical experience of seeing these representations of the Buddha, to reach across perceptions of the ordinary through imagination.
AUTHOR: Loren Byers (Thailand)
I am a photographer living in Thailand, where I have lived for the last seven years. While the subjects of my photographs are eclectic, the main focus of my photography is of expressions of Thai Buddhism–temples, practices, sculptures. My work includes a range of styles from conventional to abstract; I use both digital and film cameras. My photographs were featured as a solo exhibition at the Monochrome Gallery in Bangkok in April, 2025. My photographs have received international awards. In 2024, I released a book of Buddha images from Thai temples, 'Come and See'. I am currently working on a book and exhibition project with the Museum of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara in Bangkok to present materials held by the museum through an innovative lens.
