TITLE: Blue adjustments
In a world where self-expression intertwines with the pursuit of perfection, the art of modern plastic surgery becomes a canvas of metamorphosis. Through the emulsion of cyanotype, a photographic process that echoes the deep blues of introspection, the photo series "Blue Adjustments" unfolds, revealing the intricate interplay between humanity's desire for transformation and the tools or different timelines that sculpt these changes.
Modern plastic surgery has undergone a fascinating evolution from its origins after World War I to its current state. Initially developed to reconstruct facial injuries suffered by soldiers during the war, plastic surgery has since expanded its scope to include aesthetic enhancements and non-medical applications.
Each image in this series captures a moment frozen in time, a glimpse into a surgical realm where dreams of perfection and identity intertwine. The deep Prussian blue tones of the cyanotype lends an ethereal quality to these scenes, as if each photograph is a portal to a realm where the boundaries between flesh and art dissolve.
Moving deeper into the series, the surgical tools themselves take center stage. Forceps, scalpels, and sutures, all coated in the cyanotype's haunting hue, evolve in to instruments of metamorphosis .
They are no longer mere tools but extensions of human creativity, shaping new contours and narratives with each precise movement.
Through the marriage of cyanotype and surgical tools, "Blue Adjustments” transcends mere documentation. It becomes a meditation on the ways in which we sculpt our bodies in good or bad ways, navigating the terrain of temporary beauty standards and sometimes narcissistic personal desires.
It invites us to question not just what we see but also how we see it, encouraging a deeper exploration of the ever-evolving/devolving canvas of the human form.
