TITLE: A LOOK INTO THE PAST
A look into the past
A past that will hopefully never become reality again! A past that should teach us all to be very careful with freedom and democracy. For many years, this freedom was taken for granted and I could never have imagined that the times of the Cold War would come back into focus.
With the war in the Ukraine, this past, which actually only exists in history books, has become frighteningly topical again. The view of the old German border fortifications has cracked. Let's hope it stays with the cracks......
The series shows the remains of the German/German border fortifications, which still stand today along the old border lines as an open museum and memorial.
The photos were exposed on film with an analogue camera and then digitally processed.
AUTHOR: Birgit Seiler (Germany)
I started taking photos about 25 years ago. Back then, I was still using an analog camera and taught myself the basics of photography. I spent hours developing film and enlarging photos in my small darkroom in the basement. And I was always fascinated by how a photo is created from white paper in a photo tray.
Today I'm 55 years old and I wouldn't want to be without the digital possibilities of photography. But with all the achievements in the digital photo world, we shouldn't forget the old craft of PHOTOGRAPHY.
My motto is
To photograph is to see.
Seeing means observing.
Observing means having patience for a subject.
Having patience means:
To consider all angles in order to develop extraordinary perspectives.
