TITLE: WHAT REMAINS?
Panam Nagar is located 30 miles southeast of the capital Dhaka. At the beginning of the 19th century the Hindu traders laid the foundation of Panam Nagar. It consists of 52 brick buildings that were once plastered with colourful, mosaic glasses. Most of the buildings are rectangular, blending European architectural design with local artistic skills. The stucco-designed beautiful buildings are surrounded by trees and contain many hidden nooks and crannies.
Walking through the ruins of a once prosperous city, I remembered the words of my lecturer from my student period. He told us about his friend who sent him a postcard from Nepal with these words contained inside: "God died, Marx died, and I have recently started feeling unwell too".
