TITLE: Untitled
This image is a self-portrait. I took it after the comment "put some clothes on" was made about some of my previous work. This photograph deals with themes of body image, identity and social constructs. We're living in a time when "Your body is a battleground" (to quote the work of Barbara Kruger). As womxn lose autonomy over their own bodies and many bodies are regarded as less than, we are left wondering where we belong. Who gets to decide which bodies are acceptable and who gets to control them?
AUTHOR: Nicole Busken (United States)
I am a Los Angeles-based commercial and fine art photographer. I started shooting when I was sixteen years old and my mom gave me my first manual slr. I've been shooting ever since. I find joy in digital photography and Photoshop manipulation as well as in analog shooting and printing in the darkroom. I've dabbled in several different genres of photography, but my favorite is food photography and portraits. When I'm not shooting, I love hiking, reading, gardening and spending time with family.
