TITLE: Star Trails over Dead Horse Point
Dead Horse Point is a state park that is embedded within Canyonlands National Park in Utah. A 4WD dirt road took me to about 1,000 feet below the top of Dead Horse Point, where I set up a tripod to capture a panorama of star trails.
I used a custom bracket that I designed and had made that positions three cameras with 24 mm lenses in such a way that, after stitching, they form a 3:1 aspect-ratio panorama covering approximately 50 degrees by 150 degrees. I aimed this set up due North from a point that put the sheer canyon walls in silhouette as the starry sky spun overhead through the night.
