TITLE: NYC STREET PORTRAITS
To get a random stranger to follow you around the corner to the white background you have posted on a wall in the right light can be quite challenging.
When living in NYC I would always dream of traveling the world to photograph people. I suddenly reminded myself that I was in a melting pot, people from all over are walking on the streets everyday.
From then on I took time to create a box to work in. It is the simple technique of separating the subject from the background bringing all the attention to the subject, which is pulled from the crowd, unaware they were going to be photographed.
I am just grateful for the technology today. I am glad I don't have to carry around an 8 x 10 camera as Richard Avedon did when shooting "In the American West."
