TITLE: "WHAT IS LYF" PT1
WHAT IS LYF part 1 is a short photography Serie post edited black and white.
On November 17 2019 a student march took place in Beirut, Lebanon. Students from private and public universities across of the city protested in the middle of the streets in broad daylight demanding basic human rights, and a safe future. Through my lens I wanted to capture the unprecedented hope of the young Lebanese generation.
I chose to capture these moments with my analogue Canon AE-1 from the end of the 60’s. That period in Lebanon was known as the Golden Ages. Quickly after, Lebanon descended into chaos. Owning and using this concrete and physical element to produce my artworks echoes the historical parallelism between now and then. Not only have we stagnated and created this false sense of peace and growth for ourselves, but we have also regressed in indisputable ways.
The way the titles are written aka , “L-Y-F” instead of “Life” alludes to the downfall of the Lebanese education sector once known as the best in the Middle East. More than 200 schools closed down, many university students had to drop out of because they were unable to pay their tuition.
There are only five prints of each of these photographs made out of 100% fine art cotton paper, only 3 (now 2) of which are available for sale and the 2 AP.
Half of the profit will go to a non-governmental organization named “Live Love Lebanon” to support their new educational initiative.
The "WHAT IS LYF " PT1 short photography serie was exhibited in Biennale Giovani Monza and won the premio speciale "MASSIMO VISCARDI" alla fotografia
