TITLE: Pandemic perspectives: Emergency Medical Service
A portrait of how the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily affected the work of healthcare professionals involved in the emergency medical services: we can see them as they prepare to respond to an emergency call, wearing full personal protective equipment before boarding the ambulance or the rescue helicopter, and continuing to wear it even while driving the ambulance. There have been very difficult times (for example, the need to transfer many of these patients to Intensive Care Units, or when there weren't enough ambulances to help everyone) and moments when hope was lost, as well as times when hope for the future has managed to keep us going. But surely in the year 2020 the fight against pandemic has also, and above all, brought healthcare workers the difficulties it has brought in general to all people in the world: loneliness and isolation.
AUTHOR: Matteo Busetto (Italy)
I'm a medical doctor working in the Italian Emergency Medical Service. I discovered photography only in the last year but I dedicated myself to it with great passion, by studying, attending courses and doing a lot of practice. First of all I would like to use photography to document through images how my work is done in Italy and in the rest of the world, for example in the most hostile environments. Moreover, I would like to use photography to explore a little more the world around me, even in aspects not related to healthcare: my main interests include social and cultural issues.
