TITLE: Time soothes but does not erase the pain.
The Srebrenica genocide is one of the vilest episodes in contemporary European history.
In a few days, in July 1995, over 8,300 boy and men of childbearing age were executed while 30,000 women, children and the elderly were forced to leave their villages by force. Many of these women, after being raped, then committed suicide by hanging themselves.
For several years, on 11 July, the poor remains of the men killed, found and exhumed during the year from mass graves were returned to their families. Mothers, wives and children have decided to bury their loved ones together. They buried them in this place, located in front of the old Dutch headquarters of the United Nations, where they had seen them alive for the last time before being handed over by the Dutch to their executioners.
The images were taken in Srebrenica (Bosnia Herzegovina) in the municipality of Potocari on 11 July 2015.
