TITLE: Cardiac Canyon
Cardiac Canyon is one of the lesser known, but spectacularly beautiful slot canyons in northern Arizona, in the United States. Located on private family land in the Navajo Nation, it is appropriately named for the steep 90-meter long sand hill climb to enter and exit the canyon. Created by flash floods common to the area rushing through cracks in the sandstone rocks over millions of years, the canyon is unique in both its beauty and history. During the late 1800’s when the US Government forcibly removed the Navajo people from their land, Cardiac Canyon served as an escape route and hiding place for those looking to elude capture and preserve their way of life. Today, a single Navajo family owns the land and allows one group of no more than 5 people daily guided access. While the colors are beautiful in their own way, photographing the canyon in black and white emphasized the amazing patterns and layers of rock.
