TITLE: Mythology Illuminated by Light
In this series, I wanted to highlight the statutes of the Tuileries Garden with the different lights that surround the statutes, showing how it can give a totally new impressions with different lights and poses in black and white.
For "Alexandre Combatant" et "L'Homme et sa Misère", I used the light of the Eiffel Tower that passed between their arms to create a style more epic to their stature. Otherwise for "La Nymphe", I use the light of the big wheel which allows to coat the Nymph in a bigger softness and generousness compared to the other two status.
Moreover, during this shooting, I tried to reproach myself as much as possible of pictorialist and poetic style by giving grains and strong contrasts in the images.
I wanted to create a comforting cocoon with the Nymph, that she could give comfort to the other two status which represent either a fight or the other a misery of man.
Through the series I want to tell that in every trouble in life we can always find comfort somewhere, we just have to find and follow the light that illuminates our way to comfort.
AUTHOR: Alexandre GRANDIN (France)
Hello, I am Alexandre Grandin, I live in France near Paris and I am 26 years old.
I have been passionate about photography since I was 18 and I went to a photography school.
Since I’ve had the opportunity to live near Paris, taking varieties of pictures in the beautiful and artistic city has been my daily life.
I do mostly black and white photography, for me it accentuates the contrasts of shadow and light to give more raw and personal rendering.
I like the simplicity of the raw rendering of black and white photos, it transcribes more emotion than in the color for me.
I am also inspired by pictorialist movements on different series, because I have an aesthetic and poetic approach to reality.
And that’s why I like to take black and white pictures.
