TITLE: NO FLIGHT TONIGHT
No Flight tonight!
This series was created in early May 2020 at Frankfurt Intl. Airport at a time of full lockdown. It was a time of great uncertainty among people due to a global pandemic. A new virus has led to an absolute standstill. CORONA has literally slowed down all travel, especially flying. The effects on Frankfurt Airport, one of the busiest airports in Europe, were unmistakable: already in the multi-storey car park it was completely empty, apart from my vehicle there was not a single other car to be seen - even in the business parking area. The journey on which the viewer of the series submitted here is taken by me continues through the basement of the airport, where the car rental counters are located. Nobody was here. It was a bit scary: I was completely alone there. The escalator to the departure hall was also empty, the whole hall was completely empty: unimaginable. The display board welcomes those arriving: "Welcome @FRA. Enjoy your stay and explore our exclusive stores." One cannot enjoy the arrival here, nor can one explore the exclusive shops, since everything is closed. Locked. The world is locked out. The following photos show empty halls, the floor in Business Class is polished, the DELL advertising is reflected in the floor tiles. Check-in counters are turned off. Then, however, photo number #7, two police officers who are securing the building come towards me. I was so happy to see them both! The last photo, number #10, advertises ZERO EMISSIONS. Anyway, it worked out well that day!
